"With the advent of the 33-rpm record in 1935, covers began to be used as a vehicle for illustrations. When visual artists produced records they illustrated the covers by creating a work for this purpose, a work of art in its own right. Many artists created double covers for double LPs, often with insertions, brochures, photographs or documents relating to the creation of the work, or with photographs of installations or performances. The entity of record as sound support and cover as visual support, of a great visual richness, enables the beholder to discover in an unexpected manner the artistic evolution of a particularly fertile period of the post-war era."  ( do glossário )
